London & Middlesex Local Immigration Partnership

Who we are

The London & Middlesex Local Immigration Partnership (LMLIP) is a collaborative community initiative dedicated to making London and Middlesex a welcoming, inclusive, and thriving region for all. Established in 2009 as part of a national initiative of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), LMLIP brings together service providers, community organisations, multiple levels of government, and local residents to support newcomer settlement and integration.

Co-led by the City of London and a community representative, LMLIP reflects a commitment to shared leadership between institutions and grassroots voices. Today, our work is supported by a broad network of partners across various sectors, including post-secondary institutions, faith-based organisations, and over 140 dedicated volunteers.

Our vision is clear: a stronger, healthier, and more welcoming community where everyone has the opportunity to belong and thrive.

What we do

The LMLIP catalyses collaboration, connection, and action to support the integration and well-being of immigrants in London and Middlesex. We:

  • Promote welcoming communities by actively working to eliminate racism and systemic barriers, advancing Truth and Reconciliation, and celebrating diversity through initiatives like I Am LondonAll Are Welcome Here, and Our London Family commemorations.
  • Strengthen integration and wellbeing by supporting coordinated, culturally responsive services across sectors, sharing data and research, and fostering newcomer participation in civic life.
  • Build community partnerships by connecting settlement and non-settlement service providers, governments, employers, and community groups to work collectively on shared priorities.
  • Ensure organisational vitality through transparent practices, strong governance, and meaningful participation by a diversity of partners and volunteers.

These efforts align with LMLIP’s 2025–2028 Strategic Priorities:

  1. Welcoming Community – Eliminating racism, advancing equity, and fostering inclusion.
  2. Integration & Wellbeing – Improving newcomer outcomes through collaboration and intersectional approaches.
  3. Community Partnerships – Strengthening relationships across sectors to support settlement and inclusion.
  4. Organisational Vitality – Building a resilient, effective, and connected partnership.

Together, we are building a community where newcomers are supported to participate, contribute, and succeed fully, because when everyone belongs, we all benefit.

How we do it

The LMLIP uses a collaborative framework to facilitate the successful integration of immigrants;

  • The LMLIP is co-led by the City of London and a community member
  • Guided by a Central Council and five issue-specific sub-councils focusing on barriers to integration in housing, health and wellbeing, education, employment, and inclusion and civic engagement
  • The LMLIP is supported by post-graduate institutions, community services across sectors and volunteers.
  • All LMLIP members represent the area of focus, not their respective organization.
